This week we welcomed our local dragonfly and damselfly enthusiast, Pete Hadfield to visit the pond at Kionslieu Farm, in the heart of the beautiful Isle of Man.
The secluded pond set in our small nature reserve between Kionslieu Holiday Cottages and Kionslieu Lake, has become the home to many dragonflies & damselflies.
Weather conditions were perfect and Pete identified the dragonflies and damselflies in the photos below, together with 2 large red damselflies. Pete explained that it is a little late in the season for them. He also told us that there is a good chance that earlier in the year there would have been the four-spotted chaser and will visit again earlier next year.

In the UK, the numbers of the Common Hawker, Black Darter and Emerald Damselfly are in decline, this is likely to also happen on the Isle of Man with upland ponds drying out during dry spells so it is brilliant that we have all 3 at our pond.
