At Kionslieu Farm, every day brings new sights and sounds. Wander the quiet country lanes and open fields to spot skylarks, snipes, lapwings, and the distinctive curlew – whose haunting call echoes across the valley from March to September.
During the day, you might see greylag geese feeding on the hills, and at sunset, watch them gather on Kionslieu Lake – a beautiful, tranquil spot perfect for birdwatching or a peaceful picnic. Hares dart across the fields, wildflowers bloom all around, and the panoramic views stretch from the hills to the distant sea.
One of our most popular walks is to the nearby Kionslieu Lake, a serene haven for both visitors and wildlife. The lake was originally created to power the Foxdale Mines in the early 1900s but has since become a sanctuary for wildfowl such as tufted ducks, whooper swans, and the rare great‑crested grebe.
Enjoy an early morning stroll through the mist, a picnic by the water, or simply relax as you listen to the curlews and watch the dragonflies dance above the pond.
A short walk south of the farm brings you to Stoney Mountain, home to a hen harrier roost and nesting sites for ravens, crossbills, and short‑eared owls in summer. It’s one of the Isle of Man’s hidden wildlife hotspots — a must‑see for nature lovers and keen photographers.
