Cycling in the Isle of Man

I can’t possibly include all routes from the farm but here are just a few suggestions of rides from your doorstep at Kionslieu.

A short ride south is  South Barrule which has excellent forest trails together with more exciting tracks if you’d like to test your skills. For a sample of what’s waiting for you just click this link

At South Barrule you’ll also find the Coffee Cottage with coffee, hot chocolate & delicious cakes.

Cycling further up around South Barrule, we always stop to take in the breathtaking views such as the one captured in the photo below; Kionslieu Farm is in the centre of the photo, the Kionslieu lake slightly to the right and just behind is the Archallagan. If you look carefully you can also see the Observatory just to the left of the Archallagan.

From South Barrule we often cycle down past Snuff the Wind / Rushen Mines towards St Johns. Alternatively by taking a left we head down along the river to Glen Maye, back along the Patrick Road. Whichever route you take the most picturesque track home is along the St Johns to Foxdale railway line that runs above a beautiful secluded valley, the birdsong is amazing so do stop to admire the views and to listen.

Archallagan – The Forest with the Thousand Trails

From Kionslieu it’s just a short ride north to Archallagan with tracks for every ability, even the youngest members of your family.

If you’d like to venture beyond Archallaghan, you can take the Rocky Road, which leads down to Glen Vine to the railway track, from which you can cycle through to Peel, arriving at the harbour.

Then back home along the railway track beside the River Neb to Raggatt, over the little bridge and home through Patrick. Once again the route home is along the St Johns to Foxdale railway track.

For a perfect end to a true outdoor day why not enjoy a local beer with a barbecued kipper?
